Safeguarding Today Limited is a training company with a fresh approach. Our Director and Trainer Jennie Smith has been a criminal Barrister since 2003. Following 10 years at the Crown Prosecution Service she draws on her vast knowledge and experience to assist companies in improving their safeguarding standards.
As a rape & sexual offences and child abuse specialist, she can draw on real life practice of file reviews and court skills to offer a unique training experience. Her knowledge goes beyond sexual offences and child abuse cases. This includes domestic violence, sexual offences committed by children, harassment and stalking, hate crime in all its forms, and diverse cultural practices harmful to vulnerable groups.
Our Director and Trainer Kath has been a Police Officer with Greater Manchester Police, one of the UK’s largest and busiest police forces for 30 years. During a varied career she has gained a wealth of experience in safeguarding children and vulnerable persons.
In 2003 Kath was trained in advanced witness and suspect interviewing.
In 2005 Kath trained as a detective constable and after a time in the Criminal Investigation Unit she became a dedicated Child Protection Officer.
In 2009 Kath was trained as an interview advisor, In this role she provided strategic and tactical advice to senior officers in the investigation of complex crime.
Kath has been the officer in charge of many complex investigations into serious allegations of a physical and sexual nature against young persons. She has dealt with the investigation from first report to successful conclusion at crown court.
Kath has a multiagency working background since 2005 and has attended numerous Child Protection Conferences and core group meetings.
All courses are compliant with current legislation, policy and procedure, including Working Together to Safeguard Children 2015, Keeping Children Safe in Education 2015. We also take into consideration Local Safeguarding Children Board requirements. Our training is compliant with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), Section 11 Children Act 2004, the Education Act 2002, Borders, Citizenship and Immigration Act 2009.
